Microsoft was, and still is, one of the largest tech companies in the world. It's founding began a new influx programs and software being released, many of which are still in use today.
Other than in the tech itself, Microsoft also changed the way that software licensing worked. Instead of selling the program to a distributor for a certain amount, developers would get a small percentage of each sale.
