On the same day as the British gave over the power to rule Hong Kong to China in 1997, protestors broke into the Legislative Council complex [2][11]. They defaced all pro-government, pro-Beijing symbols and icons, as well as spraying graffiti on the walls. Messages such as "It was you who taught me peaceful marches did not work" and "There are no rioters, only tyrannical rule" were sprayed [2]. Between 170,000 and 550,000 protestors were active in Hong Kong [2].
