Jacob Riis got his first book published. It detailed how bad life was in the tenements. It reused 18 of the line drawings from his original essay publication, and included 17 more halftone pictures. The book sold very well and was quoted often. Many of the reviews were positive, but some stated that Riis oversimplified and exaggerated certain things.
