He was born on February 29, 1860 in Buffalo, New York and died on November 17, 1929 in Washington D.C. Herman Hollerith made a major contribution to the invention of the modern digital computer with his punched card tabulating machine, invented in 1890. His Invention became the foundation of a company that evolved into International Business Machines (IBM).
