On March 13, 1980, Iran held the first elections for the Majles since the shah was overthrown. The First Islamic Majles is the parliament for Iran. It resulted in a a victory for the Islamic Republican Party, which won 85 of the 270 seats, and subsequent Majles elections to occur every four years.
