Prélat français élu → crise institutionnelle.
Famille romaine pas contente → émeute → lebel emmène à Avignon. Jusqu'en 1677 tous papes français. Un jour pape va regagner Rome, affranchir royauté → grand schisme d'occident. → éléction nouveau pape, famille romaine font pression → election urbain VI tyrannique → éléction nouveau pape : Clément VII retourne avignon.
→2 papes europe diviser entre Urbanisme et Clémentisme. Prendra fin en 1417: pendant cette période affaiblissment église.
