1 gen 1844 anni - Nancy "Quindaro" Brown

Descrizione:

Nancy Quindaro Brown, the daughter of Chief Adam Brown of the Wyandot Native American tribe, married an abolitionist by the name of Abelard Guthrie, in 1844. Chief Brown did not approve of their union. Guthrie consequently became adopted into the tribe. In 1856, Guthrie, in collaboration with antislavery Wyandot tribe members, allied with other former representatives of the New England Emigrant Aid Company to establish Quindaro as a safe port of entry to free-state settlers. One of the representatives involved was Dr. Charles Robinson, the founder of Lawrence, who later became governor of the State of Kansas. Owen A. Bassett surveyed the land in December of 1856.
