Peña, 28, was killed in the parking lot of Walmart on Valley Drive. Peña, along with his girlfriend and Patrick, 48, and Gabriel Salaiz, 21 (father and son, respectively), traveled from Silver City to allegedly collect a drug debt from Sonny Sierra, 25.

Police believe Peña pointed a gun at Sierra, but then the two got into an altercation and Sierra ended up with the gun and shot Peña. Sierra left the scene. Allegedly, the Salaizes chose to dump Padilla at an abandoned home against the protest of his girlfriend who wanted to take him to a hospital.

Sierra and the Salaizes have each been charged with murder.
