Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire though he was shot dead along with his wife. The objective of the killer was so that Austria-Hungary's South-Slav provinces would be combined into Yugoslavia. The killer was Gavrilo Princip who was backed up by a Serbian terrorist group called "the Black Hand".
