Plessy v. Ferguson was a famous Supreme Court case in which the controversial "separate but equal" doctrine was advanced. This addressed the constitutionality of racial segregation laws. It established the idea of separate public facilities for African-American citizens. This decision was ultimatly overturned in the 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka.
