- Working conditions for gold miners were terrible
- One day workers were given rotten horsemeat, which lead them to organise a strike
- The event turned into a mass of protestors, many leaders of which were arrested
- Troops fired at the crowd, who brought a list of their demands to their managers. This resulted in the death of 200-500 protesters, hundreds more were wounded.
- The Lena Goldfields massacre led to a huge storm of protest throughout Russia
- Repression meant the number of strikes had declined up until 1911, but after the massacre there were nearly 2,000 strikes.
