Regarded as one of the world's great masterpieces of sculpture, the Pieta depicts the Virgen Mary holding Jesus' body after his crucifixion. Made by the great Michelangelo in 1499, it would go on to be called one of his greatest works. When the credit for this work was being given to someone else, Michelangelo decided to carve his name into it, making the only peice in which he signed his name.
