*There is a controversy about the date and place of printing. Vigeant 1882, cites Carranza as Portuguese and Lisbon as place of publication.

According to Castle 1989, Carranza informs his readers that he finished his book in 1569, when a few copies were printed by order of the Duke of Medina 1898, 1898, Sidonia, but that it was only put into circulation in 1582 and appeared simultaneously in San Lúcar of Barrameda and Lisbon, although all this has been questioned.

Mayans 1776, gives the date of 1571, surely the date of approval. Stefano deMerich collects all the existing information and clearly establishes 1582 as the only publication date.

He (CARRANZA) cites Marozzo (Achille Merosso Bolonesse) on f.125. He is cited by Pallavicino and Marcelli (as Geronimo Sanches), by Pacheco, Lorenz de Rada, Santos de la Paz, Cerón, Méndez de Carmona, Lara, Abreu de Lima (who criticized him extensively) and André.
