In 1988, there was an environmental disaster where medical waste was found washed up on the shores of New Jersey. This illegal dumping, however, was not unusual, many big companies would dump their trash into the Ocean. This brought apon a new belief of environmentalism. After this, strict laws started being passed to limit/stop what waste dumping.
