*Approximate dateThe Anonimo Riccardiano (MS Ricc.2541) is an anonymous 16th century Italian fencing manual.
It currently rests in the holdings of the Biblioteca Riccardiana in Florence, Italy.
The teachings of this manuscript bear some similarities to those of 15th century master Philippo di Vadi as well as to the contemporary Bolognese fencing tradition.
DATE PROVIDED
In the transcription and translation "Anonimo Riccardiano / Trattato di Scherma" Battistini, Venni - 2019, in the preface to the book Rubboli propose 1550 - 1575 as a plausible date for the Manuscript. Yet the same question if the similarities with the Bolognese / Fiorentina Schools but a more simple structure might be evidence of an earlier origin.
