I'm watching a show on MTV called "Faking It" after school. My grandma and dad sit on the couch across from me. On the screen, two girls kiss. This angers my dad. He yells a few profanities to my grandma, talking about how he doesn't pay bills for me to be watching stuff like that. She takes his side.

"Mamita, when I was growing up, stuff like this would NEVER be on la tele..."

I remembered when Colleen recently told me she likes girls. It made me think why people have to "come out" about liking the same gender, but not the opposite. It probably has to do with the fact that this was the first time I'd seen two girls kiss on TV. If the main characters had been a boy and a girl and not two girl BFFs, it'd be different.

I doubt my dad would say anything about a chaste, HETERO-sexual peck on the lips.

Anyway, I changed the channel.
