1 nov 1952 anni - First successful hydrogen bomb test

Descrizione:

After a breakthrough in 1951 by Stanislaw Ulam and Edward Teller, the successful model for the hydrogen bomb, the first successful hydrogen bomb test was performed on the 1st of November on the island of Elugelab in Enewetak Atoll, in the Pacific Ocean, as part of Operation Ivy. "Ivy Mike" was the codename given to this first full-scale thermonuclear device.

The hydrogen bomb was ultimately what brought the world into the state of "mutually assured destruction" during the Cold War, as it proved to be the most powerful weapon at the time. The Soviet Union, in America's footsteps, made their own successful thermonuclear bombs, which officially brought both of the countries into "mutually assured destruction."
