This act outlawed discrimination of any kind based on sex, and it represents the culmination of much of what the women's rights movement had been fighting for since the Seneca Falls Convention, as women finally achieved almost complete equality under the law. (Effect: a far more equal society in American to women) (Continuity: women got more rights as a result of civil rights legislation by the government)
