The KKK was founded immediately following the Civil War as a white-supremacist group that aimed to suppress African American’s political clout in the South and suppress the influence of the Republican Party in the South. They did this by threatening blacks and committing acts of terror across the South. The founding Grand Wizard (leader of the KKK) was Nathan Bedford Forrest.
