1 gen 1838 anni - 1838 - The Trail of Tears ocurred as a result of the combination of the Indian Removal Act and treaties the federal government signed with a minority of Cherokee. Though the Cherokee had formed a sovereign nation and contested the laws that discriminated against them, they were force to move. Their leader, John Ross, did not believe the federal government would resort to force, but it eventually did, forcing all the Cherokee to move to Oklahoma.
