14 gen 1965 anni - Characters in Contemporary Lit
Descrizione:
Most contemporary British literature entails reality-based stories with strongly developed characters. The idea of having a main character that is easily relatable allows for readers to more easily sympathize to the social injustices and trauma the character is going through.
Reality-based stories are an important aspect to contemporary literature as well because readers can more easily imagine the situation as it is really happening. The reason that many authors do this is to more easily get readers to open their eyes to new ideas. As the contemporary period is about illuminating new and changing social issues, it is important that writers create a story that is easily understandable and relatable so that readers are more open to the main idea the writer is getting at. For example, Jackie Kay's novel Trumpet is a story that consists of the experiences from all characters in the story. The character's emotions and experiences of the event of Joss dying makes the story very personal and relatable, grabbing hold of the readers' emotions and sympathy.
Sometimes the literature presents two contradictory arguments as well as irony, personal cynicism, disillusionment and frustration. There is not one type of contemporary work; they are all drastically different but still revolve around the idea that there are social injustices in the world and those issues need to be considered and hopefully changed.
