18 feb 1871 anni - Rise of Children’s Literature

Descrizione:

Many have previously given the Victorians credit for in a sense, inventing childhood, because of their efforts to put an end to child labor and instead, emphasize the necessity of the education of children and the benefits doing so would bring society. In time, as more and more children began to be able to read written works, literature for kids became a new growth in industry. Not only were adult writers such as Charles Dickens making works for children, the Victorians gave way to the rise of children’s book writers. Writers like Anna Sewell, Lewis Carroll, and R. M. Ballantyne wrote mostly for kids. We see even more of a focus on the importance of the education of children when we see authors like Thomas Hughes. The idea of school came to be a significant part of his writing in Hughes’ works such as “Tom Brown’s Schooldays”. Today, children’s books and writers are everywhere.
