Sea Power: Britain was an empire based on commerce, sea power, and naval dominance. Those strengths allowed them to establish an extensive footprint across the globe with trade routes and colonization. All of their naval prowess and war supplies to colonize and dominate the seas was all afforded by a robust national economy and the powerful industrial nation Britain had been establishing for many decades prior to their vast empire they were building. One of their trade routes that fed the economy and left a lasting impact on the world was their hand in the Transatlantic Trade in which slaves provided workers in the American territories Britain maintained. We read books that referenced these trade routes in Equiano describing the ins and out of the triangle trade and its devastation on black minority groups. Sea power also allowed Britain to wage war on the American colonies and with France. It is also important to note that while Britain was small Geographically their industrial infrastructure allowed them to dominate the seas with an enormous and powerful navy unparalleled in the world at the time.
