26 gen 1837 anni - Michigan Joins the Union
Descrizione:
Partnered up with Arkansas to keep the balance between free and slave states, Michigan became a free state. There was a bit of dispute on Michigan's border with Ohio, causing something called the Toledo War. Michigan wanted land up to the mouth of the Maumee River at Toledo, but it eventually gave up. Andrew Jackson signed an act of Congress on January 26th, 1837 that admitted it as a state with an addition of land on the other side of the Great Lakes called the Upper Peninsula.
