Sometime before 17 March, anti-Kalakani tribes from Tagab launched a surprise attack on Sarubi and Gugamandan, opening what Robert D. McChesney labels the "The Tagab Front".[32] This attack took the local garrisons by surprise and allowed the Tagabis to capture two cannons, weaponry and other military supplies.
