Compact cassettes were released in 1962 by Philips, they were either sold with a pre-recorded cassette or a recordable “blank” cassette but both are changeable by the customer. Tapes were used to record songs however, they were very difficult to use and could not afford to mess up during the recording; they would cut the tape if there was a mistake.
