-The empress Dowager Tz’u-hsi’s officials encouraged anti-foreigner movements that were breaking out, including a group called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists. In the English language the members of this group became known as simply as Boxers. When they began attacking foreigners throughout China, the uprising became known as the Boxer Rebellion. They killed many Chinese Christians and foreigners.
-The empress encouraged the Boxers because she didn't want foreigners it would make her government weaker because the foreigners kept defeating them. The emperor's didn't have a strong enough army so she didn't want to fight the foreigners because she knows they would beat her. Because they lost the Opium War and all. She secretly encouraged the Boxers.
- The Boxers were attacking and uprising against the foreign and they destroyed churches, railways, mines, really anything to connect with the outsiders. Many foreigners fled to embassies in Beijing. There they came under siege by an army of angry Boxers. They are killing the Chinese Christians because they are acting like foreigners and they don't like that, even though it is like killing their own kind. They are taking back their own country and they are not really rebellion over the government and stuff they are just trying to get their country back.
