Description: Allowed African American to join the Union Army. African American men weren’t treated with equality. They received lower pay than the white soldiers. They also suffered from lack of medical attention. The Militia Act did not stop discrimination against blacks

Long term impact: Would led to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s
