A conflict in the French and Indian War between 1300 British troops led by Major General Edward Braddock and an alliance of 108 French troops, 146 French militiamen, and 637 Native American warriors led by Captain Daniel Liénard de Beaujeu. Beaujeu was killed quickly in the engagement, but the rest of the men continued fighting. The warriors used psychological warfare against the British, shrieking while fighting them and nailing the dead's scalps to trees. The British units soon fell into disarray, but Braddock refused to retreat. After about three hours of fighting, he was fatally wounded, spurring the British to retreat.
