An expensive tariff levied by the McKinley Administration, specifically Maine Congressman Nelson Dingley, Jr. It imposed duties on wool and hides, and increased the ones on woolens, linens, silks, china, and sugar. It was not only the highest tariff in the country's history (about 52%), but also the longest-lived (12 years). It was repealed in 1909.
