10 giug 1948 anni - Sexual Revolution

Descrizione:

For the most part, sexuality, especially feminine sexuality, remained
taboo into the 1960s, by both convention and law.

Sexual Liberation:
Kinsey Reports - (1948 & 1953)
Playboy magazine - 1953
Lady Chatterley's Lover - 1959
FDA approval of the Pill – 1960
The Feminine Mystique (Betty Friedan) - 1963
Sex and the Single Girl (Helen Gurley Brown) – 1963
National Organization of Women - 1966

Women ended up believing that they should be able to do whatever they wanted and be able to do it without judgment from anyone especially relating to their sexual encounters. Lots of things were related to whether they were married or not and what was considered to be acceptable at the time.

Gay Rights:
The sexual revolution counted for the gay people as well. In 1969, NYC police raided the gay bar. The
ensuing riot moved to the streets and escalated, lasting the
entire weekend.

Gay Liberation Front – “Gay is good for all of us”
Coming Out:
By 1973 there were 800 gay and lesbian organizations across the
country.

The moved slowed and fractured because of infighting

Back Lash – Christian fundamentalists led a fight against the
“gay agenda” resulting in the repeal of local laws banning
the discrimination against gays and lesbians.

In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association stopped
classifying homosexuality as a disorder
