The five year plan lasted from 1928 to 1932. It’s purpose was to escalate industrialization across the Soviet Union. In order to do this, modern machinery was adopted and many trained instructors were hired to teach people how to use them. Collective farming methods were used to ensure everyone got enough food. Quotas for production were impossibly high, so most output was surrendered to the government, causing food shortages. Ironically, most people did not seem to benefit from the plan’s completion. This is important because it changed the way Russians live, and added more machinery and jobs.
