In July, 2002, UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Programme on AIDS) reports that in sub-Saharan Africa, HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death. Due to AIDS, life expectancy in this area goes from 61 to 47. UNAIDS also reports that AIDS is the fourth biggest killer globally.
