The British Reform Bill expanded the electorate for the House of Commons, which is the popularly elected legislative body of British Parliament. It was put in place to transfer voting privileges from the small agricultural lands controlled by the nobility and gentry to the populated industrial towns. The first of many reform bills was made to show inequalities in representation between traditional rural areas and the rapidly growing cities of newly industrial England.
