19 sett 1737 anni - Walking Purchase

Descrizione:

A land deal between Pennsylvania colonists and the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The Lenape agreed to give up land bounded by the distance that a man could walk in 36 hours. Provincial secretary James Logan procured an incorrectly drawn map mislabeling two rivers. That way, it would appear that Logan's team of walkers could travel much farther than they actually did. Additionally, Logan hired the three fastest runners in the colony - Edward Marshall, Solomon Jennings, and James Yeates - to complete the circuit. Marshall made it seventy miles away, putting the total area captured at 1.2 million acres. Upset, the Lenape appealed to the Iroquois, who decided not to intervene.
