7 ottob 1765 anni - The Stamp Act Congress

Descrizione:

On October 7, 1765, representatives from nine of the colonies held a meeting in New York to discuss a way to protest the Stamp Act. This Congress was held all the way to October 25 and was one of the first congress of the American Colonies. Those who attended the meeting would discuss the new tax and how if affected the colonist, many believed that it was just another attempt at the Mother Country to take money from them. The Stamp Act Congress created the “Declaration of the Rights and Grievances”, stating that the colonist had the same rights as the British, the only ones who had the right to tax the colonist were the colonial assemblies, and they didn’t have the right to tax the colonist without their consent. This would eventually start the road to revolution as this was the first time the colonist all united to go against the Mother Country.
