5 magg 1789 anni - Estates General Meeting
Descrizione:
The Estates General Meeting was called on this day after a lapse of approximately 200 years in France. It signifies an important subject which King Louis XVI was attempting to address which required the input of the representatives from all three of the estates. The flaw in this system was regarding the population density in contrast to vote distribution. The subject of this assembly meeting was to address matters of the financials debt faced by France. The conclusion they were progressing to was whether or not to raise taxes on the third estate. Social factors are essential to understanding background context to factors directly related to the topic of discussion. The way the society is structured, was the Clergy, Nobility and the Peasants/Commoners. The reason for the economic instability was through recent wars as well as the Clergy and Nobility spending too much money on their selves causing the country to be in major debt. Although the Third Estate formed 97% of the overall population of France, they were only granted one vote during this meeting. Considering how the Clergy and the Nobility combined were a mere fraction of the total population of the Third Estate immediately implies the exploitation of the taxes that had been occurring.
