Union Victory. Led to increased Union troop morale, a complete shift in attitude that led to the re-election of McClellan. Took place in Atlanta, GA. Geographically important because this begins Sherman's 'March to the Sea,' which leads to sieges, cities being burnt, confiscation of planter land, and destruction of railroad tracks crucial to communication and transportation (Atlanta was a railroad hub, after all).
