The DREAM Act, which is short for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, was a bill in Congress that would have granted legal status to certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and went to school here. The act never exactly passed through Congress, but there have been many bills that have been written up similar to this one since 2001. The term “DREAMer” is used to describe such people who came to America as children and studied here. Oftentimes these children identify as Americans. This has become very controversial in 2017 due to the presidency of Donald Trump who has been known for his firm opposition of immigrants and foreigners.
