From the 26th to 29th of February, 1936 certain army groups affiliated to the Kodo Ha faction attempted to violent seize control of the government by organising an armed coup in Tokyo. Although initially successful in seizing control and began a mass assassination of democratic politicians, including 2 former Prime Minister. They eventually came undone due to infighting, failure to kill the current Prime Minister and Imperial rage at having their power challenged. From this point the Kodo Ha faction was severely reduced in power and the Tosei Ha which Tojo was part of were almost unchallenged.
