Thomas Edison was a famous inventor, known for the creation of the phonograph, film, mimeograph, and much more. Among his most influential inventions was the making of the Incandescent Light Bulb. For years, inventors had been competing to make an “artificial light”, so that people did not have to use gas lighting. Using a carbon filament, Edison was the first to successfully make a functioning light bulb. With the help of J.P. Morgan and the Vanderbilt Family, Edison funded the Edison Electric Light Company and by his creation of the incandescent light bulb, the everyday lives of people in the United States changed because they replaced their gas lights with incandescent light bulbs.
