This trial is also known as the Scopes Monkey Trial. John Scopes was a science teacher that was persecuted for teaching about evolution in a Tennessee public school. This court case involved politics with science of evolution and religion of how life began. Both sides claimed victory, and Scopes agreed to incriminate himself so that the Butler Act could be challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union.
