World War I, also known as the Great War was a global war lasting for approximately 4 years. It began after the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The Central Powers comprised of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire went up against the Allied Powers of Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan, and the US. By the end of the war, 16 million people had died, including soldiers and civilians.
