The first spring reverb was created in 1939 by Laurens Hammond. The spring reverb that Hammond created was made in a similar way to an electromechanical device to simulate a single delay experience over long distance calls. The device used two springs to transmit the delaying signals and four other springs to dampen and center the driver saddle.
