However, in order to maintain this control, totalitarian governments are known to use many techniques such as PURGES, CONTROLLED PARTICIPATION, INDOCTRINATION, SCAPEGOATING, HISTORICAL REVISIONISM or NEGATIONISM, CULT OF PERSONALITY, and having a COMMAND ECONOMY. Joseph Stalin is a widely known Totalitarian ruler who used these techniques to control Russia.
