30 lugl 1676 anni - Bacon's Rebellion

Descrizione:

Bacon's rebellion illustrated the hatred that Colonists had for the Natives. When the British governor of the Virginia colony, Sir William Berkeley, showed a reluctance to retaliate against the Natives and not listen to the demands of the laboring people, Nathaniel Bacon took matters into his own hands. On July 30, 1676, Bacon published his "Declaration of the People" which stated that Berkeley was corrupt and protected the Indians for his own selfish purposes. Bacon then organized his own militia of laboring colonists and freed indentured servants to fight the Native Americans. Fearful of the uprising, Berkeley dispatched his own militia to stop Bacon. Bacon died while being perused by Berkeley's militia for a year. Bacon's rebellion showed that people would take matters into their own hands and fight for what they believed in.
