Since its inception, the Yelonai kingdom, especially the city of Yelona was divided by rival religious sects. The underlying doctrine of Yelonai religion described a pantheon of rival gods, and their followers waged wars on behalf of them. It was believed that if a cult dies, the god dies with it, and all of their follower's souls will be lost. Between -400 and -100 sectarian fighting dominated yelonai politics, until the initial 12 main cults were reduced to one, the cult of Xeron. After that, another line of conflicts followed between the secular and religious class, which culminated in a settlement in which the Yeloreen crown sworn to protect Xeronism as the one and only religion of Yelona, and in turn the church was demilitarised and military power consolifated under a centralised state. This settlement was such a turning point in Yelonai history, the official yelonai calendars counted their years after it, alongside this timline. The following century is widely considered Yelona's golden age.
