After Lenin died, Stalin started to rise up in power within the communist party from 1922 to 1927. He placed his supporters in powerful positions and people who opposed him, such as Trotsky, were killed or exiled. Stalin became commander of the communist party in 1928 even though Lenin did not want him to when he died.
This event was most important because it started the totalitarian government in Russia. Stalin destroyed all individuality of Russians and undid many things Lenin did, such as taking away the control of factories away from workers and the land from peasants. In order to form a collective, Stalin destroyed and killed the lives of many people. The status of all Russians also dropped a lot because they have no individual rights and are all equally as oppressed.
