Nelson Mandela had to spend his birthday in the hospital because he was recovering from a lung infection. This makes up most of peoples lungs so it was very hard for Mandela. This is when people have bacteria in their lungs and it is very hard to breathe for people with it. Nelson Mandela had to spend most of 2013 tell he died in the hospital because of his lung condition.
