*After unifying to defeat the French*, the colonists were also tired of the Intolerable acts and Britain’s constant control over the colonies, the original thirteen colonies declared independence from England. Thomas Jefferson was a lawyer from Virginia that was chosen to draft the document alongside with others: Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Richard Sherman. This document became the foundation of the United States of America and becomes the most successful Constitution, even in the modern world. The Declaration of Independence was the colonies’ first of many efforts to permanently separate from England leading towards the Revolutionary War. Key Concept 3.1.IV
